Supr.c.ilio.us: The Blog Spam blog Closed. Spammer: It Just Wasn’t Paying the Bills

I’ve used no-follow etc plenty on my old framebased website to avoid all my image and flash based pages wasting altavista (at the time) serverspace and surfers time, but this is the first time I’ve seen no-follow used on a link. Good thing.

rel-nofollow, a format created by Matt Cutts of Google (and later described as a microformat by Tantek elik and Kevin Marks) is an elemental microformat which allows authors to create hyperlinks without implicitly endorsing them.

rev=”vote-against” is a vote-link property which allows web authors to link to a site, yet count that vote not as an endorsement for the link target, but as a criticism.

Services which use links for calculating authority, such as Google, Technorati and just about every other search engine available can and should discount links which use rel=”nofollow” or rev=”vote-against”.
