Podcast review – NashvilleStandUp.com

I’ve been a subscriber for the podcast from NashvilleStandup.com, but ended it today. Here is the email I sent them:

Just wanted to say sayonara. Ive downloaded some of your shows as podcasts, and have come to the conclusion that they, well, suck. I’m 6 minutes into the 15th of october show, and so far there has not been anything worth listening to, just noise, crappy sound, internal backslapping and general boredom.

Here’s a tipoftheday for ya: Editing

Here’s another: Add some more standup jokes, and add previews to the beginning so the listener at least have something to look forward to.

Oh, and another: It is cool to actually be able to hear what people say, put on headsets so you can hear whats actually recorded, the sound on that show was just awful, the first 6 mindsplittingly bad minutes of it.

There are very few standup podcasts available, so you have very few competitors, but that doesnt give you carte blanche to do bad work. The listeners deserve better.

Bye!

I hope they get their act together. I love standup, but the only other podcast I’ve got in this genre is the Tom Shillue Live Comedy Podcast, only updated once every blue moon. Please, happy podcasters out there, whip out that mike and record some more standup for me. I know you can do a better job than the Nashville standup crew.

  1. Thanks, Morten! It’s a shame we’ll never talk to you again, but keep on kicking Norwegian ass. Your feedback, while tactless, is appreciated.

  2. Thanks for your review of the first six minutes of the October 15th show! My wife has printed it out and put it in what she calls my «Scrapbook of Suck».

The mix on that show was inconsistent – the lady who normally runs the board during our show had left the station unexpectedly the night before and we had to get one of our guys to do it at the last minute that week.. so it is what it is. Too bad you didn’t stick with it.. it turned out to be a pretty funny show.

I’d be interested to hear any other comments you (or others) have about the other shows as well. One thing that sucks about radio is you don’t get the immediate feedback you get in front of a live audience.

Last weeks’ show was even better and we’ll continue to improve it however we can. Thanks for linking to us.

  3. Wow, two comments, I’m impressed. That in itself tells me that you take your show more seriously than I though. Dudes, I’m back on the bandwagon!

  4. Hey Morten . . . we dedicated today’s show to you, hope you enjoy it . . . the podcast will be up in the next few days.

Thanks for being our only fan, even though you don’t really like us,

  5. Hi, Morten, this is Jesse Perry from the Nashville Standup Radio show . .
. Just to let you know, the show where we read your letter and saluted you is up . . . It’s the show from 10/29 . . . I honestly hope you enjoy it, and I hope you think it’s an improvement over previous shows.

    Clever, eh?

  6. Hahaha, that was really funny! To me anyway. I doubt that anyone else enjoyed it as much as me though :) (by the way, you used the first 6:42 on introduction and my letter, you might want to tighten that up).

In the show you urge ME to make a comedy podcast, and that is a great idea, but I would probably make a video version if I had the time and the energy to figure out the copyright part of it. The only drawback is that it would be in Norwegian, which would seriously limit the reach of such a production. The level of Norwegian Standup is really great, but that won’t help you much, being american and all.

Now I will listen to the rest of your 10/29 show :)

  7. Cool, glad you liked . . . We’re getting there. The latest podcast is up, and features the owner of the station calling us live on the air to give us grief. Whee!

    Thanks again,
    Jesse
